FREC 3 Responders
FREC3 Responders aid our basic entry of medical personnel. They play a vital role in the initially assessment and treatment of patients who come into our care. They are trained in taking observations, trauma management, initial management of medical conditions and administering emergency oxygen as well as Basic Life Support (BLS) resuscitation
There qualification and training fall in line with Level D of the RCSEd PHEM Framwork and approved training qualifications include (or equivalent to)
- Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care
- Level 3 Award for First Responders on Scene
FREC 4 Responders
FREC 4 Responders provide an intermediate level of assessment and management build on the foundations of a FREC 3 qualification, they provide more knowledge of medical problems and anatomy. They are Intermediate Life Support (ILS) trained so can use more advanced and secure airways, ECG acquisition and basic rhythm identification. In addition to supporting healthcare professionals with medication administration and invasive procedures
There qualification and training fall in line with Level E ofthe RCSEd PHEM Framework and approved training qualifications include (or equivalent to)
- Level 4 Award in First Response Emergency Care
- Level 3 Award in the Safe Administration of Life Saving Medication (Optional)
Ambulance Care Assistants
Ambulance Care Assistants (ACAs) are FREC 3 trained staff who are Blue Light Trained through an approved blue light course. ACAs are normally paired up with a Healthcare Professional (such as a Paramedic) and will drive the ambulance under normal or emergency conditions to the appropriate hospital to ensure the patient receives the most appropriate care. They are responsible for ensuring the ambulance is always ready to be used
Emergency Care Assistants
Emergency Care Assistants (ECAs) are FREC 4 trained staff with the Level 3 Award in Life Saving Medication. They are also Blue Light Trained through an approved blue light courses. They will use their intermediate skills and support the Healthcare Professional (such as a Paramedic) to convey the patient to the most appropriate hospital. They to are responsible for ensuring the ambulance is always ready to be used
Emergency Medical Technician
Emergency Medical Technicians are expierenced non-registered professional, who have a good level of autonomy. They normally work on an ambulance supporting a healthcare professional or occasionally are the lead clinician on an ambulance or event. They can perform a range of clinical skills and administer medication in line with the company’s clinical governance and Schedule 19 of the Human Medicine Act 2012.
The qualification and training falls in line with Level F of the RCSEd PHEM Framework and approved training qualifications include (or equivalent to)
- Level 5 Diploma in First Response Emergency and Urgent Care
- Level 4 Diploma for Associate Ambulance Practitioners
NMC Registered Nurses and Practitioner
Registered Nurses are degree trained healthcare professionals with a variety of backgrounds mainly Emergency Department or Pre-Hospital Care who work on events as part of a multi-disciplinary team and are normally ILS or ALS trained
Nurse Practitioner are normally trained to masters level and can do additional skills like advanced wound care/closure and prescribing
All nurses must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) with no restrictions to practice. The use of the title ‘Nurse’ is a protected title
HCPC Registered Paramedic and Practitioners
Registered Paramedics are pre-hospital clinicians who are normally the lead clinician on ambulance in the absences of a Doctor. They can perform a wide range of clinical assessment and interventions like advanced airway management and IV/IO access. They can also give a wide range of pre-hospital medications.
All Paramedics must be registered with the Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) with no restrictions to practice. The use of the title ‘Paramedic’ is a protected title. Paramedic training falls in line with Level G of the RCSEd PHEM Framework.
Paramedic Practitioner are normal trained to masters level or working within advanced practice, they have specialist training in primary/urgent or critical care. They can often perform advanced wound closure and prescribe
GMC Registered Doctor
Registered Doctors are advanced trained Healthcare Professionals who normally are clinical lead on large scale events. They can perform a wide range of clinical assessments and interventions. Normally a Doctor has a background in Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care Medicine or Pre-Hospital Medicine
All Doctors must be registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and have a License To Practice with no restrictions. The use of the title ‘Doctor’ is a protected title
